Grinding Metal examines potential waiver wire additions that can assist your team during the fantasy baseball season. From home runs to pitching strikeouts, Grinding Metal has you covered. Week 22 is here, so let's start things off.
Triston Casas, 1B, Boston Red Sox
Although he has just two hits in three games since being promoted to the Red Sox, Casas will eventually find the groove and settle in - just like most talented rookies do. The Red Sox want to get a real good look at their future first baseman, so I would expect plenty of playing time. He's probably not a player for shallow leagues, but certainly someone to pick up in the deeper and AL-only leagues.
Josh Jung, 3B, Texas Rangers
The team's biggest prospect will be called up to the big-leagues and have a month to show everyone and fantasy owners what he can do. He'll be a corner infield position player for fantasy owners. He's missed most of the year with a shoulder injury, but since returning to minor-league play, he's hitting .267/.323/.542 with 9 home runs in 30 games. He has high expectations, but it's worth adding to your team for the final month.
Jack Flaherty, SP, St. Louis Cardinals
There might be a change that Flaherty is still available in your league (still owned in less than 75% of leagues) and he will have a favorable matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend.
Pete Fairbanks, RP, Tampa Bay Rays
The veteran reliever has converted all five his save opportunities and currently sports a 1.53 ERA over 18 games this season. He has a 26:1 K-to-BB ratio. Not much else to say except that he should be owned.
